doctor/patient relationships

is it appropriate for a male psychiatrist to have a ongoing texting relationship with a female client? or to go out on social activities, like baseball games, together? my girlfriend has this type of relationship with her doctor.. and it makes me uncomfortable and i feel it's unethical on his part.. are their rules regarding this type of behavior? thanks in advance for your time
